Three Myths in Correcting Children’s Amplyopia

April 11th, 2011 by Jay Furlong No comments »

Amplyopia is a kind of eye disease which seriously affects the visual quality. The survey indicates that the rate for children to suffer from amplyopia is 2% to 4%. It has a great impact on the children’s healthy growth. Some parents often mislead their children to wear eyeglasses, which delay the treatment to the children. This mainly lies in the following three myths:

Myth 1: Postpone the children’s wearing glasses

Some parents don’t want their children to wear glasses too early, but amplyopia is caused by the dysplasia of optic nerve of which the critical developing period is from 3 to 5 years old, therefore amplyopia should be cured as early as possible. In theory, the vision and all visual functions of the 8-year-old children will be the same as that of the adults; but in clinic, it is found that children who are above 3 years old have the normal vision. That is to say, if a 3-year-old child is found to have ametropia which affects the eyesight, his parents should fill a prescription to correct it for him. Don’t miss the optimum correcting period of the children because of your misunderstanding.

Myth 2: Take on and off the eyeglasses frequently

This is an issue that most of the parents concern because they deem that the development of their children’s eyes will be affected due to long time wearing. But on the contrary, for children who have suffered amplyopia, wearing eyeglasses all the time in itself is curing the amplyopia. If they take on and off the glasses frequently the treatment effect will be influenced.

Myth 3: Stop the children wearing glasses and training

This is also one of the mistakes that the parents often make. The standard indicating the amplyopia is healed is the binocular visual acuity reach up to 0.9 and the binocular vision and stereo visual function are good; moreover, the vision should not be lost during continuous 3 years’ follow-up vision. Many parents and even some nonprofessional doctors don’t train their children’s binocular and stearo visual functions after their children’s vision is improved to the normal level, this is so to speak falling short of success for lack of a final effort.

If you have a child whose amplyopia is being treated, please do not step into the above myths.

Why Should Amblyopic Children Change Eyeglasses Frequently?

April 10th, 2011 by Michael Bansal No comments »

When it comes to amblyopia treatment, parents usually put forward such a question, namely why it is necessary to retest the vision and change the eyeglasses frequently? While for adults, they can wear a same pair of eyeglasses for several years. Why?

This is because the children’s eyeballs are developing, which makes the ocular axis increase continuously. According to the rough calculation, when the ocular axis is increased by 1mm, the hyperopia degree will be reduced by about 3.0D correspondingly. The children’s ocular axis is 14.5 ~17.0 mm when they are born. Generally speaking, the ocular axis of them will not reach 24mm which is the ocular axis length for adults until they reach 6 ~8. Consequently, the children’s diopters vary all the time before they are 6 ~8, hence it is required for the amblyopic children to retest their visions and change their eyeglasses usually.

In addition, the pupil distances of the children keep getting larger. If they don’t change their eyeglasses in time, their eyes will not be able to see things clearly straightly through the optical centers of the lenses. As a result, apart from visual retest, it is also necessary to remeasure the children’s pupil distances and match them new glasses.

It is better that the visual retest is conducted once half a year or a year, not exceeding one year. After refilling a prescription the eyesight will be enhanced and the eye position will tend to normal. Changing eyeglasses is beneficial to improve the effect of treating amblyopia and reduce the treatment course.

It is worth noting that the parents should pay attention to prevent their children’s amblyopia from recurring. Some parents deem that the eyesight of the amblyopic children is improved means their amblyopia is healed, so they neglect the consolidation therapy and then fail to supervise the children’s consolidation therapy, examine their vision and replace their eyeglasses regularly. Moreover, the children’s consciousness is not so good, so they don’t persist wearing eyeglasses and coordinating the treatment. Both of the above two factors will lead to recurrence of amblyopia.

The Relationship between Diet and Our Eye Health

April 8th, 2011 by Richard Schneider No comments »

Eyes are the important organ for human body. Overuse of eyes may cause eye fatigue, psychentonia, malnutrition and vision loss. The common symptoms of eye fatigue are headache, forehead swelling and dry eyes.

In order to protect our eyes, we should do some eye exercises regularly combined with good rest; in addition, having some foods that are good for our eyes will have a great effect.

The adaptability of our eyes to dark will be weaken in case of lacking vitamin A, and even nyctalopia will occur when the condition is serious.

Lean meat, poultry, animal’s liver, fish, shrimp, milk, eggs, beans, etc. are rich in protein which is the major element that makes up cells; while the repairing of tissue needs to be supplied with protein continuously. Therefore, foods that contain vitamin A are good for our eyes.

Vitamin A can also protect against and cure xerophthalmia. It is necessary to intake sufficient vitamin A everyday to eliminate the fatigue of our eyes.

Besides, vitamin C is one of the elements that make up the crystalline lens. It is easy to suffer from cataract if some one is lacking of vitamin C.

For this reason, we should pay attention to intake foods that are abundant in vitamin C in our daily life, such as all kinds of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially the green pepper, cucumber, cauliflower, cabbage, fresh date, pear and orange.

Additionally, rich calcium powder is also beneficial to our eyes. Calcium has the function of eliminating the eye strain. For example, beans, green vegetables and dried small shrimps are rich in calcium.

From what I stated above, we can see that vitamin A and C are the most important for our eye health, so if we want to protect our eyes well, we should intake as many foods that are rich in vitamin A and C as well as calcium as possible during our daily life.

Do Not Stare at the Computer for a Long Time While Wearing Contact Lenses

April 7th, 2011 by Paul Benjamin No comments »

With contact lenses we can do sports freely and see things clearly, but we should not stare at the computer for a long time. Most of the contact lenses wearers will feel dry in the eyes or have other uncomfortable feelings after facing the computer screen for a long time. This is because they don’t blink eyes frequently. Currently, the commonly used contact lenses are made from high polymer material, so their oxygen permeability is not so good, which prevents the eyes from breathing oxygen to some extent and thus causes the cornea anoxygenous. Besides, the long time staring at computer makes the eyes under high pressure. The normal people blink more than 20 times every minute; while people who wear contact lenses sitting in front of computer blink only 4 to 5 times per minute.

What’s worse, almost all contact lenses will gradually decompose and degenerate under the radiation from the computer. Some of these decomposed micromolecule will reach the crystalline lens through lymph circulation and then combine with the repaired tissue of the crystalline lens, so that to form new polymer. A small amount of polymer will be discharged from the inner part of eyeball to its surface and finally be discharged in the form of gum. However, when the polymer is too much the dust and debris in the eyes will accumulate in the crystalline lens, thus gradually develops into cataract.

Therefore, for myopic people who have to face the computer for a long period everyday, they had better wear framed glasses. If they must wear contact lenses, they should pay attention to the rest of their eyes. For instance, look into the distance after one hour staring at the computer; not rub the eyes but wet them by using the eye drops that don’t contain preservatives when they feel dry in their eyes; take off the contact lenses to leave sufficient time for their eyes to discharge wastes during having rest; and wash hands before taking off their contact lenses when they are going to bed. Moreover, do replace the contact lenses once their service life is exceeded.

How to Identify Authentic Designer Eyeglasses

April 6th, 2011 by Edward Turner No comments »

Facing with various kinds of designer eyeglasses that make us dazzled, we usually feel helpless since the fake branded eyeglasses that look almost exactly the same with the authentic ones are getting more and more. If we are not cautious enough, we will easily be deceived by the knockoffs. So it is of great importance to identify whether the eyeglasses we have bought are genuine or not. I think you must be cautious in case of these following events:

1. The “authentic eyeglasses” are sold at exceptionally low prices

Most of the time “cheap and fine” is just an adjective. High-quality goods with extremely low prices can hardly be got in our real world, because even if the ordinary eyeglasses would have such costs as expenses for materials, labor, transportation, etc., let alone the designer eyeglasses.

2. The seller claims that he is a production manager or has relationship with the production manager.

As a production or sales manager of an international eyeglasses factory, he must be quite busy everyday. Moreover, the production quantity is limited and the cost accounting is very strict in the big factories, so how can the “manager” take out so many designer glasses? I think all of you should think over if it is possible? Even if he is able to do so, you can imagine how bad his character is and how low his reliability is.

3. The seller claims he sells the eyeglasses at a loss

It is credible that the seller makes low profit in the transaction, but it is impossible the he sells the designer glasses at a loss. No one would be willing to sustain a loss in business, in other words, no normal people would do so unless he has totally lost his mind.

There is another thing I want to mention, namely the details of the authentic eyeglasses are processed more fine than that of the knockoffs be. Take LOGO for example, the genuine eyeglasses’ LOGOs are smooth and clear, and the rhinestones on them are brilliant; while the knockoffs’ LOGOs are coarse in the edge, and the diamonds on them are dull.

I hope you can learn the knowledge about identifying the authentic or fake eyeglasses, so as to enhance your ability to identify true and false and avoid buying fake designer eyeglasses.

Enjoying Sunshine is Helpful for Preventing Children’s Myopia

April 5th, 2011 by Charles Garrana No comments »

How to prevent the children from suffering from myopia has always been a topic that most of the parents care about. Apart from having a balanced diet, not writing or reading in the sunshine, not using the eyes for a long time, etc., do you know enjoying sunshine is also very helpful for preventing the children’s myopia? As for the reasons, I think they can be listed as below:

First of all, enjoying sunshine can accelerate the exudation of vitamin D that can increase the absorption of calcium by the children’s body. Calcium is an indispensable element for the human body, therefore, for eyes, lack of calcium is likely to weaken the elasticity and surface tension of the wall of eyeball. The children’s ocular axis is easy to be lengthened when they do some near-distance work or lower their heads, so that the myopia occurs and develops.

Second, enjoying sunshine can promote the children’s bodies to exude more dopamine which can effectively stunt the growth of eyeball so as to impede the occurrence and development of myopia.

Third, sunshine can make the children’s pupils contracted and increase the focusing force of their eyes to see more clearly, hence preventing their eyes from suffering myopias.

Fourth, as people usually enjoy the sunshine outdoors, when the sunlight is strong they seldom see near objects; on the contrary, they will see far and do some sports instead in order to relax their eyeballs. This is just the best way to protect their eyesight and it is also conducive to preventing myopia.

It is worth to be mentioned that we should let our children do more outdoor activities and enjoy as much sunshine as possible, allowing the UV ray from the sun to directly shine on the children for over 2 hours everyday to enable them to get sufficient dopamine and vitamin D. It is true that the children living in today’s world are busy with study, but anyhow the parents should take them to do sports and play outdoors as far as possible.

Filling a Prescription? You Have to Wait Even if you are a Prince

April 1st, 2011 by Stephen Simon No comments »

Apart from producing aromatic cookies and acoustic equipments, the Danes offer the people all over the world with a way to express themselves, namely Lindberg Eyeglasses. It takes less than 30 years for this Denmark eyeglasses brand to rise, but even so she has attracted numerous Eurasian royals. The celebrities with status and tastes seldom wear gorgeous adornments on their faces; instead they choose Lindberg to express a kind of low-key philosophy.

In the fashion field, people always say if a Cinderella meets a prince who wears a pair of eyeglasses, the glasses must be Lindberg. While among them, the noble metal series is the most outstanding.

The noble metal series glasses frames are manually made of 18K gold or platinum, decorated by diamond and other gems. Each frame is a treasure that is cut from the natural material elaborately and placed in a glasses box made from real leather. Lindberg’s Goldsmith is able to combine all kinds of noble metal according to particular requirements.

The gold used by Lindberg noble metal series has a unique source. It is the gold ore mined from Greenland which is located at the North Pole and then transported to Spain to be processed into 24K solid gold. Lindberg is the exclusive eyewear brand who has the special right to make such gold into glasses frames. The wedding rings of the Prince and Princess of Denmark are made of the rare Greenland gold.

It is worth mentioning that it takes 20~50 working days from seeing the samples, choosing styles to getting the eyeglasses. Don’t complain the time is too long. Even the Prince of Denmark or Bill Gates has to wait for the glasses for so long a time. If they want to customize gifts for themselves or their friends, they have to make a reservation in advance.

Pay Attention to the Development of the Children’s Eyes before They Reach 20

March 31st, 2011 by Cliff Krause No comments »

Experts put forward that for people who are under 18, their eyes will experience two periods of the fastest growth. The first period is from 3~4 years old and the second period is from 12~15 years old. Our eyeball will not be developed until we reach 20. If parents can protect well their children’s eyesight during these two periods, the vision of their children will be lost more slowly even if they suffer from myopia in the future.

Generally speaking, myopia is caused mostly by that the anterior and posterior axis are too long. The second reason is the refractive power of the eyes is too strong. Myopia occurs mostly at adolescence and is related to genetics to some extent. However, its occurrence and development is closely associated with insufficient light, improper reading posture, near-distance work and so forth.

Additionally, when the children’s eyes are at the first fast growing period do not let them read and write too much but allow them to take part in the outdoor activities such as singing, dancing, swimming, etc. as far as possible. When their eyes are at the second fast growing period, if you find your children have suffered from myopia you should match them eyeglasses to correct their visions immediately. What should be noticed is that as the myopic eyes are just suitable for near-distance working, you should ask your children to wear the eyeglasses while seeing the blackboard and take them off while reading or writing.

Consequently, all parents should pay attention to the development of their children’s eyes, especially when they are under 18. I think none of the parents would like their children to be troubled with myopia and wear glasses all their lives. If you don’t want your children to suffer from such pain please cultivate their good habit of using eyes before they are short-sighted.

Enjoy a Different Summer with Fancy Sunglasses

March 30th, 2011 by Brian Wallace No comments »

Nowadays, the styles of sunglasses have been constantly innovated. Aside from the purposes of blocking UV rays, there are more and more diversities in the designs and functions of numerous designer sunglasses, such as the increase of the lens transparency, the improvement of the UV protection function, the bright and lustrous designs, etc. Summer is coming, and all fashion brands have already launched some new sunglasses to meet the demands of all fashion followers. The new arrivals remain focusing on retro styles, but they adopt a large number of brilliant colors such as red, yellow, blue, green and so on to respond to the blazing atmosphere of the hot summer. For this reason, such sunglasses are also called fancy eyeglasses.

Marc by Marc Jacobs and AX Armani have always been pursuing fashion and innovation. For Marc by Marc Jacobs, it makes up the cloud-like patterns with bright colors and its design is filled of thick fashion elements; in addition, the butterfly-shaped frame makes the appearance more beautiful. As for the AX Armani sunglasses, they are designed to be with big frames having the retro taste of the 1980s. Moreover, they are matched with photochromic lenses, thus are easy to wear.

Diro and Bottega Veneta who have always been emphasizing nobleness turn to focus on leisure instead of retro this summer. The designers add some simple lines to decorate the eyeglasses arms at the same instant without the ornament of dazzling diamond and crystal, which reflects the elegance and mode unconsciously.

Such fancy eyeglasses are suitable to wear at birthday parties or masquerades. Just imagine how do others think of you if you wear a pair of fancy eyeglasses at a masquerade? I bet men will love you and women will envy you because the fancy sunglasses are so attractive. This is, of course, a little exaggerating, but such glasses will really make you attractive and distinctive from others. Don’t believe? Just have a try!

What Should Contact Lenses Wearers Notice While Camping

March 29th, 2011 by Stephen Simon No comments »

Many myopic fans of outdoor activities would love to wear contact lenses in the open air, but do you know contact lenses have two enemies, namely cold and dirty. But here are some tips to cope with them.

As we usually contact some dirty things outdoors, if there are dirt or other such small particles between the contact lens and the eyeball our eyes will be painful while they are rolling because of friction which will even lead to permanent eye diseases. Therefore, please make sure your finger is clean when you indeed have to touch your eyeball or take off the contact lenses. If it is impossible to wash your hands with soap, you should at least rinse your fingers that are about to contact your eyes with the water you take with. If there is no water, it is better to wash your finger with the contact lens solution than to contact your eyes directly.

In order to avoid the contact lenses from losing during taking on and off while you are camping, the best solution is to take on and off your contact lenses with your elbow supporting on the damproof pad or sleeping bag. In this way you can easily find your contact lenses even if they fall down the damproof pad or sleep bag by accident. What’s more, they will be much cleaner than falling down on the ground.

Do remember to take a bottle of solution with you while preparing your travel bag before setting out. If you forget to bring it carelessly, you can put the boiled water into a clean vessel, and then use it instead of contact lens solution after it is cooled.

If you intend to stay outdoors for a long time you must take a pair of framed glasses with you, otherwise you will get troubled once your contact lenses are lost. Additionally, OSA points out that long-time wearing of contact lenses is harmful to the eye health, so it is better to wear framed glasses while camping.
