A Revolution to Treat Blepharitis

November 19th, 2009 by Sam Sutton No comments »

Do you know blepharitis? Have you ever heard about it? Blepharitis is an eye disease that maybe far from or near us. Generally speaking, it is one of the most common disorder of the eye, or specifically speaking the disorder of the eyelid margins, which may cause red eyes, itching and irritation of the eyelids. The patient will sometimes experience white flakes sticking to eyelashes.

Normally, in the past the treatments of blepharitis are simple and easy to be done by patients themselves, things like cleaning eyelid with hygiene wipes regularly; removing the greasy and scaly crusting; and taking antibiotic to treat bacterial inflammation.

Those methods, now, have been out dated and do almost little effect to blepharitis, but the good news is that it has been researched that a new treatment, has been developed. With this method, not only blepharitis but also the underlying cause of it and the conditions concerned are able to be cured at once.

And then what is this revolutionary? It is called the Warm Compress Mask Treatment. The reason why it outweighs other traditional treatment, for example the historically recommended “hot flannel treatment”, toward blepharitis is as follows:

Warm Compress Mask is more able to sterilize than hot flannels, which may, on the contrary, prolong inflammation.

Warm Compress Mask works long than hot flannel, which stay hot enough for a few moments, while WCM treatment requires 40C warmth for 10 minutes

What is more, WCM is easy to apply and pleasant to apply, and most importantly it is natural. No drugs are contained to destabilise your tear film.

Caring For Your Glasses

November 19th, 2009 by Edward Turner No comments »

You may think one wearing glasses appear to be a bookworm many years ago, however, wearing glasses in modern society has become another fashion, especially when one wear a pair of stylish designation. Glasses of different styles show different characteristics of a person, for example, black frames make one look fashionable, half-rimless make one look intellectual, rimless glasses make one look elegant.

However, those of us who wear glasses know that over a short period of time we can ruin the lenses by incorrect cleaning. This section contains information and advice on how to look after glasses. It highlights common problems, tells you how to avoid those problems and provides practical instructions on how to care for your glasses.

1. Never clean the lenses when they are dry, but clean them under warm running water. Because when rinsing lenses dry, either with paper towels, handkerchief or tissue paper, the lenses are easy to get scratched. If there is dirt and grime on the spectacle lenses, extra time should be taken to take the dirt away.

2. Rinsing lenses with soap is better. With soap, then lenses are more likely to be cleaned, getting shining like new. Then, flush out the lather with running water and use drinking paper or tissue to absorb the water on lenses or use a dry soft cloth to pat them dry. One thing should be kept in mind is that do not rub the lenses while drying, in case of scratches.

3. Brush grime off the nose pads. Grime on nose pads is usually neglected. Method to clean the grime is to use a soft toothbrush and brush them gently. Remember to be careful, in case of grazing the lenses accidentally.

4. Whenever taking off your glasses, either on the desk or glasses case, remember to cover them with a soft cloth. Never throw your glasses recklessly into your bag or bed, for it is very easy to make your lenses scratched by other items.

5. Last but not the least point is something that you have to pay attention to in daily life: never lay your glasses face down, in case of scratching the lenses by the surface of desk or floors; remove your glasses with both hands to prevent bending the frame; always store your glasses in a hard case.

Those tips for glasses cleaning are rather simple, which will not take you much time. If you want to enable your glasses, especially lenses more durable, try those tips above regularly.

As we all know, eyes are precious to us, thus many people attach much importance to the prescription of glasses. They prefer to purchase a pair of glasses in exclusive stores, because they are of the best quality, and they are highly efficient. However, the point is that glasses in those optical stores are rather expensive, therefore, in order make full use of the money that you have spent, it becomes responsible to take care of your glasses, or you will have to end up paying more amount of money because of your reckless, irresponsible ways of caring glasses.

Wash your glasses everyday, both for your money and for your eyes.

About Myopia

November 18th, 2009 by Edward Turner No comments »

You may be unfortunately one suffering from myopia, however, do you know how myopia occurs. Generally speaking, there are two main reasons for the formation of myopia. The first one is the hereditary factor. Researches reveal that if parents are both nearsighted, their children have a 33% chance to develop into myopia, which normally tends to show up when children get their 8 to 12. The second one should be the environmental factor. If you spend most of your time on close work, such as watching TV, and working before a computer, etc., you will probably develop into nearsightedness. Close work will also aggravate condition if you’ve already have a myopia. However, what makes things strange is that some people will not get shortsighted even if they often do close works. This is what researchers are exploring.

In theory, myopia occurs when eyes are larger than normal eyes in size. Thus, bigger and elongated, eyes project the light rays from faraway objects to a mid point of the eye but not onto the retina. Such images often come to be blurry. This is the so called refractive error in the eye. The roles eyeglasses and contact lenses perform in nearsightedness is to help make image project to the place, that is the retina, where they suppose to be, in which way image come back to be clear.

Apart from blurry vision, nearsighted person would often suffer from other symptoms, such as burning or tired eyes, headaches and restricted tolerance to reading. Similarly, when someone sits closely to the television to enjoy programs, he is not surely myopic but maybe his or her specific interest or habit. Moreover, a middle aged person who suddenly finds things become fuzzy in vision is also not sure to be myopic. He is more probably recognized as an early symptom of cataracts which is a common eye problem for the middle aged. What is more, it also can be an indication of keratoconus, which would make the cornea of the eye change shape and may be a inducement of diabetes. Therefore the best way to know whether you are nearsighted or not is to have an eye check in doctor’s office.

Myopia is not a must procedure one will suffer from in his or her life. If you are not a nearsighted person, spend more of your time out in the fresh air. A study shows that those who do so often are less likely to get myopic than those who spend most of their time on close work; if you are a nearsighted person, there are also effective treatments. Besides wearing eyeglasses and contact lenses, eye surgical corrections are another options which are more preferable, among which LASIK is doable. Lasik, or say PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) is a kind of eye surgery which is accomplished by removing a small piece of tissue prior to the flap being reattached. In this way the eyes can focus objects on the retina again. However, in view that each surgery is a big step for everyone, therefore to consult related information in details and take side effect into consideration is necessary.

Anyhow, no matter whether you are shortsighted or not, and if you are, no matter what kind of treatment you are going to take, it is important to have frequent eyes examinations. It is suggested to test eyes for any changes on an annual basis as for children and to test every two or three years as for adults.

Candidates For LASIK Surgery

November 18th, 2009 by Paul Benjamin No comments »

LASIK eye surgery, an innovative operation on eyes, is thought to have brought many benefits to people of eyesight problems, be hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), or astigmatism ( a common condition where cornea is irregularly shaped). Most people are quick to have one to get their vision clear. However, not everyone is suitable to have a LASIK surgery, here are a list of them:

People under 18 years old are thought be not suitable, because teenagers are in their time of unimpeded growth, at which age the vision prescription is not stable. Any eye surgery, including LASIK surgery is usually most successful for those who have a stable vision prescription for a period of time.

People having certain diseases, such as the diseases that cause hormone levels to fluctuate, and those are taking certain medications are advised not to take a LASIK surgery. Because some diseases and medications may have side-effect of hindering the healing process after laser eye surgery. Therefore, before an operation, your eye doctor will ask you relative questions and ask for an overall eye examination.

Besides, even if you do not have certain diseases, if you are examined to have certain eye problems, such as large pupils, and thin corneas, etc. you are not the best candidate for an eye LASIK surgery. Even if you already have another eye surgery before, you are not suggested to undergo a LASIK surgery.

Other groups who are not for LASIK include those in bad health condition, those having had inconsistencies in their glasses, those participate in sports frequently and so on so forth.

After checking all the problems above, and if you are qualified. Then come to the issue to choose

After checking all the problems above, and if you are qualified. Then come to the issue of choosing your eye doctor. Things need consulting include the eye doctor’s education, professional membership, and board certification and relative laser eye surgery he or she has ever undergone.

However, you should not only believe an exparte statement of the eye doctor himself or herself, since everyone is selfish. Another way to get to know more information about the eye doctor is to search in the Internet, checking others’ judgements on him or her

Prescription Safety Glasses For Your Safety And Vision Correction

November 17th, 2009 by Stephen Simon No comments »

I retired from work 2 years ago, and life became purposeless and empty everyday. In order to fill the emptiness, I formed a habit of DIY, to renovate old furniture and fortunately I have restored several properties. Although it took time and money, I felt quite happy. The only drawback is that my glasses, more specifically speaking, the lenses suffer for it. They either get dust from sanding or are hit by sparks from grinding. And when I tried to clean them with eyeglass cloth, they inclined to be scratched. Two pairs of my glasses have been the victims.

Since changing glasses or lenses are quite money cost, I think I need safety glasses, which are usually put on together with my original glasses. They are large enough to cover the glasses inside and are specially designed to be kept on face firmly. However, the problem is that, with the safety glasses on, I am not able to see things in vision clearly through two layer of plastic. What’s more the object in sight even sometimes gets distorted, because one day when I struggled to see my wife, she appeared to be cranky. Therefore, it seems that the safety glasses do not work on me, and I have to burden them. Then it seems that I have no choice but constant change of lenses if I want to continue my work of DIY.

However, the good news is that, several days ago, I was introduced an innovation, the prescription safety glasses, which are able to provide both vision correction and protection. The lenses on prescription safety glasses are of polycarbonate, protecting lenses from scratched and the same time, they are prescribed according to specific eyesight condition. And the frames are of high durability, prolonging life length. And then, what makes me more excited is that they are not as expensive as I think they should be. Therefore, what I need are just two pairs of glasses, one for daily time use while the other for DIY time use. It means that I do not have to change glasses lenses constantly, which saves me a lot of money as well as a lot of time. What’s more, vision will be no longer distorted or blurred.

The next day I told my neighbor who is also a fan of DIY. Getting the news, he was also very excited because he has refused to do DIY since the time a piece of sawdust flew into his eyes. His eyes were red for a couple of days, because of some minor damage and infection to eyes. However, now he said that he could embark on DIY once again.

Aging Vision Problems and Solutions

November 17th, 2009 by Scott Mozayeni No comments »

As we know, for aging people, they usually put the books or photos at their arm’s length when reading and watching, but at regular distance, they cannot see. Maybe you think it is a strange phenomenon. Actually, it is caused by an eyesight problem named presbyopia. It is researched when people are at the age of 40 they are likely to be bothered by presbyopia. There are several solutions to deal with this eyesight problem, and wearing reading glasses is the most widely used way for people worldwide. The following will give an introduction about presbyopia and reading glasses.

It is known that presbyopia is mainly caused by the aging. That is because in our eyes, there is a circular muscle, which enables us to see things at different distances by changing shape, expanding and contracting the focusing power. When we are young, this muscle is very flexible. And when we are getting old, this muscle loses the flexibility day by day. So the power to focus is not strong any more. As a result, we can not focus on the things near us, but in a certain distance.

For the solutions to deal with presbyopia, nowadays there are mainly the following three means. First, surgery, like Lasik, which involves the reshaping your cornea, but some patients still need to wear reading glasses after surgery. And the frustrating point is for some people, they may still need to wear reading glasses after surgery. Second solution is lens implant. But for this, people may suffer more serious risks, like inflammation, inflection, glaucoma and bleeding. So people should be careful to take this measure. And for most people, they prefer wearing reading glasses. Reading glass can help you away from the pain of surgery and risks from lens implant. Just wearing a pair of reading glasses can do it.

Is it difficult to select reading glasses? You may want to raise this question. Don’t worry! It is very easy. And even if you don’t have a prescription, you can also select your reading glasses. If you want to purchase high quality but lower price pair of reading glasses, it is recommended to try some online shops. They usually have a full range of glasses with lower price and better service. But for reading glasses wearer, it is better to consult your eye doctor at a regular time, as we need to test if we have other serious eye sight problem in time, or listen to our eye doctor’s advice.

Prescription Safety Glasses

November 16th, 2009 by Paul Benjamin No comments »

Some people think safety glasses are too ugly to look at. And they do not want to prescribe when they decide to or have to wear such glasses. In fact, it is not need to think in that way. There are also very fabulous safety glasses that can be prescribed in very convenient ways. Here are some suggestions if one wants to prescribe safety glasses.

The prescribing of safety glasses is very essential for the health of wearers’ eyes. Some statistics have that many workers make their eyes greatly damaged for improper use or not using of safety glasses. Also 90% of such tragedies can be avoided if these workers can wear prescribed goggles. There is a myth in the workers that they need not to wear other contacts while wearing safety contacts if they have some eye problems. But the facts have proved that such activity will damage their eyes very seriously. And now if they see the eye doctors, such problems will be solved, for the safety glasses can be prescribed with their contacts together.

The newest prescribed safety glasses are not as ugly as they used to be. Now wearers can prescribe some very stylish safety glasses, which are almost the same as ordinary glasses. Only are the sizes of these goggles comparatively larger.

The latest safety glasses are made from polycarbonate that can resist very strong impacts. These glasses can protect wearers’ eyes even they are hit directly onto the eyes. They will not explode and cause any injury onto the eyes. Still more, some harmful materials can also be avoided if people wear such glasses. Some harmful rays, as UV-radiations can also be filtered out by such glasses.

Sometimes, if had coordinated and consulted, worker can ask the employers to pay for the fees of prescribing. If it is impossible, they can find some others ways to reduce their cost on prescribing.

Attach Importance of Eye Health Maintenance

November 16th, 2009 by Mark Burns No comments »

God creates men for the sake of letting them see and praise the greatness of His creation; therefore, He endows eyes to human. With eyes, man is able to see the green trees and red flowers; with eyes, man is able to connect their inner being to the outer world; with eyes, man is able to look into others’ hearts and express feelings without words; with eyes, man is given a sense of belonging to this beautiful worlds. That is the reason why eyes are referred as the windows of our soul. Therefore, the significance of our eyes is obvious.

However, in today’s society, our eyes are facing a tough situation where pollution is anywhere, which is very bad for eyes health. For example, computer, a tool that brings us much convenience and happiness, is also of a main source of invisible pollution; when one works long before a computer, his or her eyes not only feel strained but also harmed by radiation. In addition, electronic, gadgets, and dust, etc. constitute other elements harmful to eyes. Although, our eyes are born to possess protective shields in form of eyebrow and eyelashes; when foreign matter enter eyes, tears produce which is able to help make those foreign matter outflow, necessary eye care should be done to reduce the risks of the effects of excessive strain.

Since eye is the most sensitive part of our body, nutrition to eyes is of importance. Taking right quantity of Vitamin A is helpful; a steady intake of minerals is also essential to maintain good eyesight. Besides, some topical applications are thought to be advantageous. For example, to refrigerate a teaspoon for a few minutes and then to put on the eyes and to take two bags of black tea and dab them onto the eyes for 15 to 20 minutes before going to bed.

Apart from the nutritional therapy listed above, some eye exercises should also be taken regularly. When you have been sitting before a computer or a TV, or reading books for a long time, the easiest way to ease eyes is to do some eye exercises. If you do not know how to do, there are a lot of books with relative information, you can buy some. Into the bargain, taking along eye drops or solutions to moisten the eyes is essential, for the reason that our eyes are easy to get dry, especially in windy days, so that dust particles can be removed. It is suggested to clean with a compression of a chamomile infusion on the eyes for at least 10 minutes.

Another way to maintain eye health is to apply to some creams to surrounding eye skin areas, which is usually done by ladies. By this way, our eyes are not so inclined to get dark circles and regain elasticity of the skin around them, making us a whole day refreshing and vigorous.

One thing noteworthy is that children should recognize the importance of eye health. They should do a lot more with their eyes than the adults do, for they are in their growth period and eyes condition are not stable, besides which they have to pay extra attention to words and letters for study. Thus they are more prone to strain. Therefore, children should especially attach importance to their eyes.
