Essilor International is one of the leaders in the corrective lenses industry. The corporation designs, manufactures and customizes corrective lenses to meet all visual requirements. Essilor lenses feature up to 7 times more dust-resistance and apply an ultra-thin conductive anti-static layer to the lens surface.

Essilor has continually sought to develop and deepen its expertise along its history and has taken “seeing the world better” as its ambition. Essilor was firstly formed in 1972 as a result of the merger of two dominant French companies at the time: Essel and Silor. The new company also inherited the precious tradition of its precursors. During the 1970s, Essilor concentrated its activity on ophthalmic optics and specialized in progressive lenses and used only a single material, plastic. Essilor Group was listed in the stock market in 1975, only three years after it’s born. In the 1980s, Essilor accomplished two achievements: becoming the world leader and increasing competitiveness. The 90s saw Essilor’s expanding to Asia. By 1999, a third of all Essilor’s products were manufactured in Asia.

Currently, Essilor Group is the third largest optical group in the world. It has an enrollment of 30,000 employees work daily in 100 different countries. The company is operating 15 plants located around the world including China, Thailand, Philippine, India etc… Essilor manufactures an average 220 million lenses every year in 300,000 different model references. It now has 4 R&D centers, 3 of which are located outside France, and 550 researchers.

Essilor has set up a dedicated unit to ensure the co-ordination of its plants, prescription laboratories and core strategies, in order to promote and facilitate industrial efficiency.
