Different opinions about cheap contact

March 7th, 2010 by Scott Mozayeni No comments »

Cheap contact is generally referred to contact lens at a low price or affordable price. At the initial stage of contact lenses development, they were much more expensive than contacts nowadays. Thanks to innovations and on-going researches, cheap lenses are available in wide options. Coupled with the increasing demand for contact lenses from the public, cheap contact in large bulk has witnessed a revolutionary boom in recent years. Cheap contact is offered by both reputed manufacturers and ordinary brands now. These cheap lenses suit the budget of the average people. This is a significant contribution. However, there are different opinions about cheap contact, both applauding and dissatisfying.

The most widely accepted advantage of cheap contact is its reasonable price. It makes contact lenses available even for the low income group of people. Cheap lenses offer an economical solution to customers’ various vision problems. This is an important help for the average consumer. Cheap contact in colored type also brings fashion for the ordinary people. In early days, colored contact lenses were expensive and were only affordable by a small percentage of population. You can get cheap lenses through many channels conveniently, such as online shops, ECPs and mail order centers.

In contrast, some people are not in favor of cheap contact. The quality is the most frequently blamed thing. Cheap lenses are always manufactured in large quantity and disposable type. So some people think that their quality can hardly be ensured.  Cheap contact can mostly offer premium quality, which is not acceptable for those people who take quality as the most critical element. Although attentive and observant consumers can always pick up cheap lenses without compromising on their quality, it is time-consuming.

What is glaucoma

March 7th, 2010 by Randa Nahl No comments »

Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by increased intraocular pressure (IOP) resulting either from a malformation or malfunction of the eye’s drainage structures.  The eye constantly produces aqueous, which fills the anterior chamber, the space between the cornea and iris. If the aqueous can’t filter out of the anterior chamber through a complex drainage system, glaucoma occurred. If left untreated, glaucoma may lead to permanent damage of the optic nerve and resulted in vision loss. Normal people’s IOPs fall between 8 and 21 when the patients will be much higher, and it can be a signs for developing glaucoma.

There are several types of glaucoma, common types including open angle, acute angle closure, secondary glaucoma and congenital glaucoma. Some types of glaucoma such as angle closure and congenital have symptoms, for example, sudden decrease of vision, extreme eye pain, headache, or light sensitivity. But in most case, glaucoma does not have symptoms. This is reason why glaucoma has been called the “sneak thief of sight” causing the loss of vision gradually over a long period of time and is often recognized when the disease is quite advanced. So people with symptoms or those who are more than 40 years old should have an annual examination including the screening for glaucoma, for example measuring the intraocular pressure, or if necessary doctor will evaluate the health of optic nerve by ophthalmoscopy and the peripheral vision and the structures in the front of the eye by gonioscopy.

Most patients with glaucoma only need to control the eye pressure. They may use one or several medications, usually eye drops, to reduce the pressure. Surgery may be carried out when medical treatment fails to control the pressure, in order to allow fluid to drain from the eye efficiently.

Detailed explanation of the parts of glass frames

March 4th, 2010 by Randa Nahl No comments »

Modern technology has brought us diversified materials and styles of glass frames. You may choose a durable and nearly indestructible nylon glass frame if you are sports active, or you can have a designer glass frame if you are fashion conscious. The present glass frames industry has generously offered both function and beauty for the human being. Here are the detailed explanations of all the parts of the glass frame.

“Frame front” is the front part of the whole glass frames that includes the part for holding the lenses and the middle bridge for connecting the two rims.

“Rims” or “eye wires” are the two round or square parts of the glass frame with grooves for inserting the holding the lenses.

“Bridge” is the front middle part of glass frames which connects the two lenses as a whole unit. Some old fashioned glass frame has double bridges with another one at the top. This reinforcing bridge strengthens the glass frames, making it firmer.

“End pieces” are the two end parts of the glass frame front normally with hinges on the two ends for attaching the two temples.

‘Hinges” are the two parts attached to the two end pieces of the glass frames front which connect the front and temples. Some fashion glasses don’t have hinges.

“Temples” are the two arms hooking on the two ears enabling the whole glass frame to perch still on the nose.

“Nose pads” are the two plastic or silicone pads that touch the nose. For plastic glass frames, the nose pads are directly connected to the rim; for metal glass frame, the nose pads are at the end of the pad arms—– the two thin curved wires.

“Pad arms” are only available on the metal glass frames, which are two piece of metal wires attaching the nose pads to the frame.

“Top bar” is the reinforcing bridge which can only be seen on the double bridge glass frame.

“Temple tips” is the end part of the temple touching the ears. For metal glass frames, the temple tips are apparent which can be seen as the plastic covers over the metal tips. For plastic glass frame, the temple tips are just the extended part of the temple hooking at the ears.

“Mountings” or ‘rimless frames” are the three-piece mountings which include the two temples and the bridge. Strong lenses are usually used to attach the temples and the bridge by screws to form the shape of the eyeglasses.

Non prescription contacts need to be prescribed by eye care professionals

March 4th, 2010 by Stephen Simon No comments »

With the popularity corrective color contacts, a new type of lenses called non prescription contacts (plano) came to the cosmetic world. These non prescription color contacts are being enjoyed by trendy women to enhance and brighten the look of their eyes.

The world’s major contacts manufacturers sell high quality non prescription contacts in the market. The most renowned non prescription contacts are FreshLook, Acuvue 2 Colors and Durasoft Colors. Besides these, there are hundreds of other non-brand non prescription contacts in the stores and online stores. But be careful, quality of these no-name non prescription contacts may differ by using different materials and craftsmanship. Furthermore, the paint used on the non prescription color contacts is a chemical and may sometimes be harmful.

There are basically two categories of non prescription contacts, one is opaque lenses which are normally used for dark eyes, the other are enhancers, which are suitable for light eyes. For those who may have night vision problems, please be careful in wearing opaque non prescription color contacts.

Like other contacts, the wearers of non prescription contacts should strictly follow the wearing schedule as the manufacturer’s guide. If the non prescription contacts are not the daily disposable one, you also need to clean those using designated solutions and keep in the lenses cases at night. Another note to mention is that non prescription color contacts are not sunglasses and can’t be shared with friends, as otherwise may cause serious harm to your eyes.

The last note to say is that non prescription color contacts still need to be prescribed by the doctor though the corrective power is zero. Doctors may measure your eye curve and decide the diameter of the non prescription color contacts for you. In addition, even online stores will not sell the non prescription contacts to you if you do not have a valid prescription from your doctor (How to get your prescription).

How to buy a high quality magnifying glass

March 4th, 2010 by Stephen Simon No comments »

Magnifying glass, an optical instrument creating a magnified visual image of an object, plays a fairly important role in kinds of researches and people’s daily lives. However, few know how to purchase a high quality magnifying glass. Here are several points as follows.

Firstly, magnifying glasses of high quality are often made from optical glasses or upscale resin pellets with high transparency and low dispersion. Such magnifying glasses create clearer and brighter images with small color differences. Secondly, the mirror surface of a high quality magnifying glass is aspheric. In this way, the imaging within sight is ensured to be of fine definition and low distortion. For the high expense of lens grinding, inferior magnifying glasses are spherical, which get low definition on the brink. Thirdly, a superior magnifying glass should be covered with a film of reflection reducing coating on the lens, so as to on one hand protect magnifying glass from scratches, and on the other hand increase imaging definition. Usually, magnifying glasses with films are of 10% elevated transparencies. Fourthly, judge a magnifying glass by its frame. For durability, excellent frames are usually made from metal frames with certain thickness or plastic frames of high tenacity. Last but not the least, high quality magnifying glasses are marked with explicit names and addresses of manufacturers and detailed brand information, while inferior ones just simply mark the producing places.

In conclusion, points on how to buy a high quality magnifying glass are briefly illustrated above, which are hoped to be useful for you when you are in want of a magnifying glass.
