Thanks to the rapid development of eyewear lens technologies, there more and more eyewear lenses options. These technologies are applied in all kinds of glasses, such as fashion eyeglasses, designer eyeglasses, prescription eyeglasses, non-prescription eyeglasses, sport eyeglasses and sunglasses. Following is a brief introduction of various eyewear lens technologies, which are commonly used.

Glass and plastic are the most widely used materials in eyewear lens. But these materials may cause an unpleasant appearance if one’s prescription is heavy. New materials are introduced to eyewear lenses, such as high-index eyewear lens, polycarbonate lens, aspheric lens, photochromic lens, trivex lens etc… Unlike traditional materials, eyewear lenses made of these modern materials are usually lighter and thinner.

Correction technologies classify eyewear lenses into several categories: single vision eyewear lens, bifocal lens, trifocal lens and progressive lens. These eyewear lenses integrate different vision correction functions and eliminate the need for separate glasses. Manufacturers can also make multifocal lenses without a line between different sections.

Coating is another important technology used in eyewear lens. Coatings technologies include scratch-resistant coating, UV treatment, anti-reflective coating and mirror coating. These coatings improve the surface of eyewear lenses. Each of them also has special effect. UV treatment blocks harmful UV rays, anti-reflective coating reduce glare and scratch-resistant coating makes lenses more robust.

Modern eyewear lens usually takes advantages of tints. This technology offers colorful lenses. Eyewear lenses with different tints also have special vision functions. Some tints enhance contrast of the vision and some improve depth perception.

Eyewear lens technologies provide you with a quite variety of choices.
