PHOTO BOOTH FASHION // GIRLS & GLASSES (FEATURING FIRMOO!)

Some of my favorite photos of all times are those iconic, sentimental skinny strips of photo paper that are printed out of photo booths, capturing funny faces, model-expressions and, in most cases, unique fashions from the neck up. Photo booths are a commodity that have gone through the eras almost completely unscathed, with the end motive always being fun, candidly awkward memories to file away in our boxes of nostalgia.

Looking back at photo booth strips from the 1940s and 50s can be quite inspirational in the case of fashion. Much of the time, ladies would always have such perfectly trés chic accessories and hairstyles that put the beach waves and messy up-dos of today to shame. These little gems of fragile photo paper can act as amazing inspiration for ladies today to be more thoughtful and put-together, from literally head to toe. Today, we girls are excited to introduce our latest blog series: Photo Booth Fashion! This new column in our fashion category is designed to inspire you, our readers, to pay attention to what’s going on from the shoulders up, and make the best style choices of how we choose to accentuate the first area that people we meet from day to day see.

We are excited to be partnering up with Firmoo to present this first edition of this series! Although we girls aren’t the glasses-wearing type, we were quite intrigued to find out that this once prescription-based necessity is making its way in the world of clothing as a accessory & fashion statement. We girls selected #F036, a gorgeous pair of tortoise-shell looking frames, which just exuded retro/secretary flair. Along with the glasses came the most adorable map printed hard case, a soft case, a little screw driver to tighten the bolts, and a microfiber cloth for cleaning. See how we styled them below!

Jessica is all spring & simplicity in her classic outfit. With a clean, fresh face of makeup, neatly done braids, and some sparkling earrings to complement the glasses, and add a bit of seasonal glamour; Jessica is perfectly polished and ready to go for a day around the house, or out on the town.

I had in mind the academic teen fashions of the 40’s when figuring out my ensemble. A sweater with classic color-working, a swipe of pink lipstick, messy bouffant, and daisy earrings make my look practical and fun. The classic glasses finish off my outfit with a bit of geeky retro flair.

Brigid is all a-go for adventure in her outfit. The color story of her outfit reminds me much of an old book cover or map design, with the pale blue of her cardigan, rust red of her shirt, and her glasses, necklace and bobby pin adding interest and texture.

THE REVIEW

Photo Booth Fashion // Girls & Glasses (Featuring Firmoo!), Firmoo Glasses, Photo Booth, Glasses, Girls and Glasses, Tortoise Shell Glasses, Retro Glasses, Accesssories, Boyer Family Singers Blog

We girls were very interested in trying out a new accessory type for our outfits, and are happy to review for you all our experience with Firmoo eyewear. We were very impressed with the great variety of frames they offered on their site, ranging from contemporary & fashion-forward to retro & classic. Here’s the breakdown of our experience:

The Pros

  • The awesome cases and utility accessories
  • Well-made
  • The one pair of frames flattering all our faces perfectly
  • Practical design
  • Fast shipping
  • Amazing prices!

The Cons

  • The only con that we girls have is a pretty big let-down for us: the frames that we got are too big. Any time that we would wear the glasses, they would always be slipping down to the bridge of our nose, making them a constant hassle to keep on. This could be attributed to two things: 1) they are unisex glasses, which means their build could be of a more generous nature. 2) we just have super small heads :P We girls have tried bending the legs of the glasses after warming them in hot water, but that didn’t help much (in fact, it seemed to make it worse). We may just try adding in little pads to the legs to help them stay on.

The Verdict

Overall, we were very impressed with the service that Firmoo has to offer. They are definitely the most inexpensive glasses company we girls have ever come across, and that’s a big factor in our decision to purchase or review. If you are at all concerned about the problem that we girls had with the sizing, perhaps going with a women’s frame might help. Anyhow, now’s your time to try because Firmoo is offering all new customers 50% off their first purchase! An awesome incentive, if you ask me! So, if you are in the market for a new pair of frames, or want to experiment with a new accessory, then we girls whole-heartedly recommend Firmoo eyewear!

How do we girls look “four eyed”? ;)

Have you ever tried Firmoo before?

Do you wear glasses?

A Beach Getaway and New Shades from Firmoo

March 18th, 2015

Heather Lindstrom Stylemindchic Lifestyle wearing pale gray Firmoo shades

The future is so bright we have to wear shades!

Do you ever find yourself pulling your sunglasses on and off, on and off,  based on quickly changing light conditions? They are on my head, they are back on my face, or temporarily dropped on the floor. I especially notice this when I’m traveling. I’m in the airport, on the tarmac, in shadowy hallway, or on a plane with changing light levels. It’s a surefire way to lose our sunglasses. I was recently contacted by Firmoo and offered a pair of glasses for review. The process of ordering with Firmoo, the online optical shop, is simple. The website has a ‘virtual’ try-on system, so I uploaded a photo of myself and was able to get a sneak peek of any pair in their huge selection.  I decided to mix it up for spring and selected a pearl gray pair similar. With spring and summer travel coming up, I added the transition lenses to add to the functionality of the glasses. You can see the shaded lenses above.

Pale Gray Firmoo glasses on Stylemindchic Lifestyle Blog

My Firmoo glasses arrived in 8 days, and that included the time for upgrading the progressive lenses. The shades were neatly packaged, with a stylish global motif case, cleaning cloth, bag and handy eyeglass screwdriver. I am very pleased with the quality of my glasses. The transition lenses are already working well as I move between our house and sunny back terrace. I will definitely be taking them on our trip to Los Cabos later this week. I also noted that the Firmoo website saves your image for ease of future ‘virtual’ styling and ordering. These glasses are fun clear or shaded.

Firmoo.com is the world’s most popular online eyeglasses store.  I will definitely use Firmoo the next time I need to order my prescriptive lenses. The quality and the affordable pricing make fashionable lenses accessible. Firmoo is currently offering a First Pair Free deal so it’s a great time to get your eye wear collection geared up for the sunshine.

As for us, spring break has just arrived! My pre-travel ritual is usually a fresh pedicure. I went with Essie Buy Me a Cameo shade. It’s a pretty rose-gold shade that goes with pale skin, or skin with bit of vacation color. My cute pedicure technician looked at my toes and said, “Pretty…it’s nude!” He then suggested some sparkles to zhush it up. It’s old school glam (circa 2000?) but I bit on it. I told him he was a good salesman!

So this is how our evening went last night. I highly recommend putting on your vacation hats, cranking up some tunes, Scott picked Ed Sheeran, and having a dance party as you pack. Work has been stressful for us both, so we are more than ready to get on that plane! One thing I’m not packing for this trip, 20 lbs.! It’s fun to fit into some of my favorite outfits that have been too tight for several years. If you are struggling, and I know I was, it feels so good to find a way of eating that is healthy, delicious and helps me lose the weight here.

I can see China from here

March 18th, 2015

About a month ago, I blogged about my favorable experience buying eyeglasses online from a place called EyeBuy Direct. The very next day, I received an email from another online eyewear company, asking if I would be interested in receiving a free pair of eyeglasses in exchange for a no-strings-attached review of their glasses, service and website. Since a girl can never have too many pairs of eyeglasses, I agreed.

The company’s name is Firmoo, which sounds more like some new-age dairy product than an optical store, but what do I know? On my first visit to their website, they appeared to have an extensive collection of frames and lots of good information about purchasing eyewear online, but something was just a little bit off. I kept on reading and concluded I was not dealing with a U.S.-based company. All the text was written in English but with a twist. For example:

“All of these frames which are quite popular in the world are elaborately picked by our staff…”
“Firmoo.com feels each satisfied customer is the priceless wealth who helps spread the word.”
“Through the harmonious collaboration between our optical experts,
direct manufacturers and our overseas laboratories…”

Now I get it. Firmoo is in China and English is some marketer’s second language. That’s cool. I can handle it. Free glasses are free glasses.

Aside from making me giggle, their website has a few features that I really liked, such as closeup photographs of all parts of the frames and the ability to try on many pairs of glasses at one time:

Firmoo also has some very interesting search categories:
I’m all for seeing clearly and looking smart.
Do these glasses make me look like a Republican?

I ended up ordering a pair from Firmoo’s Nerd collection, because I am.
It took about two weeks for the glasses to arrive from China.
They fit great, the prescription is accurate, and I like the way they look, on me and on Smooch.
If you’d like to give the whole online eyeglass buying thing a try,
Firmoo is offering you a 50% off deal with this link:

Makeup N Outfit #1 Spring is Coming

March 18th, 2015
Trucco occhi:
eye base primer – Kiko Milano,
palette Redemption “Hot Smoked” – Make Up Revolution,
eyebrow lifter LE n° C01 “Casablanca Highlight’s” – Catrice,
high shine eyeliner liquid ink – Essence,
mascara Lash Princess – Essence.
Trucco viso:

correttore full coverage concealer n°01 – Kiko Milano,

fondotinta minerale “Fair” – MWW4U/Jade Minerals,
blush mixing color palette n°006 – Be Chic.
Trucco labbra:
lip colour stick Super Wow! “Sunday Girl” – I Love MakeUp/MakeUp Revolution.
Outfit:
Polka dots Cardigan – OVS,
Crop top nero maniche corte – vintage,
Gonna a ruota strutturata – HeM,
Collant coprenti neri – Calzedonia,
Collana argentata Cigno – HeM,
Occhiali Cat Eyes – Firmoo,

CREATE8~TRANSITIONING PATTERNS & FIRMOO REVIEW

March 18th, 2015

Hello, Monday! Hope ya’ll had a lovely weekend. Thankfully, we are all well in our household. Very thankful to have a productive weekend, even if it mostly consisted of writing papers which puts me closer to be finished with this course.

As I was looking through my closet and decided what to post for this transition time, my eyes fell upon a couple of houndstooth pieces I used in Create28. Patterned bottoms are everywhere this spring and there are some extraordinary lovely ones that I have seen. That made me think it would be fun to style my houndstooth skirt and ankle pants. I found a little inspiration on Pinterest for the skirt look.

HoudstoothI loved the look by J who blogs at J’s Everyday Fashion. I believe she was styling this for fall but I thought I would try it for spring. The bright green top is one I know I’ll be wearing quite a bit over next few months and I think this is great way to get it into the spring rotation.

By the way, do you notice anything different about me? I received these new glasses from Firmoo. They recently contacted me and inquired if I would be interested in reviewing a pair of glasses. Just so happened that I was due for a new pair of readers so I jumped on the opportunity. I wasn’t sure what to expect for quality but I have to admit I really like them. The quality and fit were spot on. I have ordered glasses online before trying Firmoo but to be honest, I like Firmoo better. This is a surprise to me because I expected not to like them.

Here’s the skirt look with another shot of the glasses too.

DSC_2127

These frames are burgundy but they came in other colors too. Most of their frames come in a variety of sizes and colors. You can try them on online by uploading a photo of yourself and get a virtual look. This was super helpful in order to choose which ones I liked best.

Back to style…my houndstooth ankle pants are making the transition to spring as well. I’m simply switching out bottoms of the same pattern to get my next look.

I really like how this look turned out with the skirt and the pants. I can see myself wearing both in the upcoming months of Spring. What about you? Are you planning to incorporate some patterned bottoms this Spring? Have you thought about any that might be hanging in your closet and how you might push them into Spring? Love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

One more thing about Firmoo. These glasses came in a great case with cleaning rag AND the little tool to tighten them. I have never received that little screwdriver any other time when I purchased glasses. I thought that was a sweet deal. If you are interested in a pair of great glasses, please head over to Firmoo and you’ll receive 50% by using following this link. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by ordering from Firmoo. I will using them again for my next pair of readers.

Hope to see you Wednesday for another Create8 Spring Transitions Look. Have a lovely day, friends.

Welcome to another week closet to spring! Rain boots and layers are on the horizon and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m looking for a pair of pastel colored (example onetwo, three) rain boots and can’t decide which ones to get. First to be considered is quality and than calf width and glossiness. So which rain boots will you be sporting this spring?
I’m wearing a pair of Firmoo glasses (non prescription) which I really like. They have a cute style and look very nice in person. Whoever, I’ve received a comment from someone who does wear glasses that they are not very sturdy for long time wear. I think they would be good for someone who needs them for reading or an occasion, whoever they will not hold up long time wear.
Thanks for stopping by!

I am also sharing these gorgeous tortoise print glasses from Firmoo on the blog today. Firmoo contacted me a few weeks ago and let me select a pair of glasses from their site. I really had a hard time selecting a pair, but I knew I wanted a tortoise print. My current glasses are OLD and a black frame, which was really trendy back when I got them. I normally wear contacts during the day and Firmoo let me type in my prescription for the order for my glasses. They arrived and fit perfectly and the prescription is accurate.

So excited to try this new pair of @Firmoo glasses! When they contacted me I was going to go with a frame size similar to what I have now, but in a different color. However, I decided to try something new and trendy and went with this round frame in torto

The glasses also came with a mini screwdriver, a case and microfiber cleansing cloth.

And, here is a close up of the jewelry that was in my Rocks Box. If you haven’t heard about Rocks Box, it is a subscription service where you pay $20 a month for a box of jewelry. You don’t keep the jewelry, unless you want to pay for it… you can ship the jewelry back at any time for free and they send you another box. You do fill out a survey to let them know what type of jewelry you’re into, so they don’t send you something you won’t like. The jewelry is more higher end like Kendra Scott, so you’re receive a great box of goodies! I really want to keep this necklace that they sent me, I can see how it would work with SO many of my outfits… but, it is $70! Eek! Not sure if I can justify that… I am still thinking about it. The ‘Shine’ necklace they sent me is something I can keep and I can’t wait to layer it with some of my other necklaces. I think I am going to try out one subscription service a year and this year its Ipsy, so maybe I’ll do Rocks Box next year… not sure yet.

SEEING IS BELIEVING: FIRMOO GLASSES ROCK

March 18th, 2015

Happy Friday!

I have a fun review that I’ve been waiting to share for a bit now.

Firmoo Glasses Review

Firmoo contacted me and asked if a spectacled person such as myself would like to try their glasses & review. I was actually in the market for a second pair of glasses anyway, so I was thrilled at the opportunity.

I got these glasses about a week ago and have been in love ever since.

Firmoo Glasses

Seriously, I don’t really think glasses are that exciting, but guys. I am obsessed. I don’t actually wear my glasses all day long, usually just for reading or when I’m at work. I have not really taken these things off, though. They’re great!

I love the slightly bigger frames, that there are no nose pieces that dig into your nose or leave marks, I love the two-tone color that matches everything, and that the prescription is perfect and I can see clear as day.

Firmoo Glasses

While ordering glasses online may seem hard to do, I had no issues at all. They have amazing prices, lots of options, and even a picture uploader so you can “try on” the glasses before you buy them.

Each pair comes with two cases (hard & soft), a cleaning cloth, and a repair tool to tighten them later.

Firmoo Glasses Review

I was actually really surprised and impressed with the case, since I didn’t know what kind of case came with it. It is an old map design that I’m kind of in love with.

Firmoo Glasses

Bottom line: I absolutely love these. Would I order these with my own money? You betcha.

The glasses I ordered are $36 plus shipping (which is $6.95). If you truly needed new glasses, these are the best way to get them for cheap. Or if you’re a glasses junkie like me, this is a great way to get more glasses in your repertoire without breaking the bank.

Special Offers

Firmoo offers 50% off ANY glasses for all first time customers.

They also have a 40% St. Patrick’s Day sale going on right now too with the promo code SPD6543.

Questions for You:

  • If you need glasses, do you wear glasses or contacts? I have never been a contacts person!
  • Have you ever had a nice pair of glasses ruined? My most expensive pair got eaten by Beans – grr!

This is a sponsored post & contains affiliate links. I was provided the glasses for free in exchange for this review. Regardless, all opinions are my own & I always keep it real. For more information, see my website disclosure.

    Accessor-eyes

    March 18th, 2015
Before anyone decides to ask, no, I do not wear glasses. I mean, yes I am obviously wearing glasses in this post, but I do not have a prescription of any sort. When I was younger I would always put on my mom’s glasses until my head started to hurt. While I don’t think I’d want to be dependent on glasses or contacts (the idea of putting those in my eyes gives me the super creeps), I do wish I had glasses for certain outfits or looks. Why is it so looked down upon to wear glasses without a prescription? Why can’t glasses be accessories just like anything else? These things are the reason that when I was contacted by Firmoo to try out some of their frames (for fashion or function) I immediately said yes. Even Michael wondered why I accepted the offer for some glasses when I didn’t need any, but I think we should encourage non-glasses wearers to wear frames for style. They are so fun! I absolutely love this pair. They came so fast and I think the shape and colors are just beyond perfect. I am in love.

If you’re interested in checking out the frames at Firmoo for yourself, you can click any of the links (beside the one under the photo, which leads to the specific frames I chose) to get 50% off your first pair of frames! Exciting, no? And remember, they offer prescription and non-prescription lenses! Awesome right? Yes. They happen to have a fantastically stylish pair of cat eye glasses for those retro ladies out there. I almost go them myself, but I wanted something a bit more colorful. All in all, I had a great experience withFirmoo. The glasses are super fun, came in a cute case with a cleaning cloth, and even a soft case and a little screwdriver. Fantastic. Oh! And they have a feature on their site where you can upload a photo of yourself so you can try out different frames with your face shape right on the website! Yep. So go get your first set of frames 50% off today!
